New development of a technical college | 1. award 08/09
The Hafen Campus of the new technical college in Rhein-Waal is determined by the industrial remains of the former Spoy port of the city of Kleve. The Spoy canal as water axis forms the ideal centre of the new area development. The former warehouse of the Allgemein Speditionsgesellschaft AG with its majestic height is a sign of the new college complex that is visible from afar. The new college buildings are arranged in modules on both sides of the canal to form three central areas: the lecture hall centre to the east, which is connected to the creative XOX grounds, the knowledge repository with library, language centre and research centre, and the cafeteria with terrace and passable roof area, located at the basin for turning around. The stringent structure is designed with the head sides of the building directed toward the canal to form a system that is permeable to its surroundings. The result is an elongated campus, like a small town. The library repository symbolises its town hall and the swivelled lecture hall centre in the east serves as a special place of communication and encounter with the broad public.
